Assessing and Treating Cranial, Occipital, and Cervical Nerve Involvement in Oculomotor Disorders
Assessing and Treating Cranial, Occipital, and Cervical Nerve Involvement in Oculomotor Disorders

Eligible Clientele
Physiotherapists and osteopaths.
Prerequisites
5 years of experience.
General Objectives
The objective of the course is to allow physiotherapists to:
- Assess, test, understand, and treat cranial nerve injuries, neuropathies, and neuralgia.
- Provide relevant scientific elements: anatomy, neurophysiology, neurodynamics, and useful and effective osteopathic concepts for the physiotherapist.
The following cranial nerves will be covered first:
- The three oculomotor nerves (III-IV-VI), oculomotor dysfunction, and orbital headaches.,
- The trigeminal nerve and all its connections, V123; the facial nerve (VII) and facial paralysis; the vestibulocochlear nerve (VIII).,
- The glossopharyngeal nerve (IX) and the throat; the accessory nerve (XI).,
- The greater occipital nerve or Arnold's nerve (and the lesser and third occipital nerves) as well as the cervical plexus will also be described, evaluated, tested, and treated because they are important in physiotherapy.
- If time permits, we will briefly cover the other cranial nerves that are less important and have fewer treatment options in physiotherapy: the olfactory nerve (I), the optic nerve (II), the complex and misunderstood vagus nerve (X), and the very simple hypoglossal nerve (XII).
Specific Objectives
For each nerve, we will cover:
- Anatomy,
- Composition,
- Pathway,
- Signs and symptoms,
- Compression sites,
- Causes,
- Treatments (cranial bone mobilizations, cranial membranes/fascia, neural mobilizations, release of innervated and surrounding tissues).
Other topics in the program::
- Review of the foramina of the skull base and cranial anatomy; link with neural lesions of the trunk, upper and lower limbs,
- Case studies,
- Discussions on clinical problems related to these nerves.
- Dental pain, ear pain, throat problems, facial pain, concussion, torticollis, dystonia, sinus pain, viral nerve damage, tongue, traumatic vascular and dural headaches, occipital treatments.
- Trigeminal neuralgia, oculomotor problems, glossopharyngeal neuralgia (IX) in physiotherapy, etc.
