    The term facial palsy generally refers to weakness of the facial muscles, mainly resulting from temporary or permanent damage to the facial nerve. Depending on the severity of damage to the facial nerve, your facial paralysis should improve and recover unaided, however; this can be a long, drawn-out process whereby you are left feeling insecure and embarrassed by your condition. The use of EMS to stimulate the facial muscles helps to prevent contractures of affected muscles, thus lessening the physical deformity caused by facial nerve damage. In effect, the EMS machine takes on the role of the nerve, sending signals to the facial muscles to ensure they keep their tone and shape whilst your natural signaller (the nerve) recovers.
