Movement Analysis: A Clinical Reasoning Approach
Eligibility
Offered to physiotherapists and physiotherapy technologists only.
Fields of practice where applicable
In this era of changing healthcare services, these learnings will enhance what rehabilitation professionals can offer to clients of all ages, not only for curative but also, ideally, for preventive purposes. The course will include an introduction to theoretical and assessment principles as well as demonstrations of assessment and intervention with patients.
General objectives
This one-day training will equip professionals with a new and analytical perspective when assessing and identifying movement patterns.
This approach is mainly based on the Movement System Diagnosis principle of Dr. Shirley Sahrmann and associates from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
The concept focuses less on pathology, age group, or type of patient, but rather on the importance of analyzing biomechanics and the interactions involved in human movement.
In this era of changing healthcare services, these learnings will enhance what physiotherapy professionals can offer to patients of all ages, not only for curative but also for preventive purposes.
The training will introduce key concepts and clinical reasoning based on movement analysis, which will be synthesized through demonstrations of assessment and intervention with patients.
Following this training, you will be able to:
Understand the key concepts that guide this approach
Question the patient more effectively to detect the origin of movement patterns
Initiate an assessment of movement quality in the upper and lower quadrants
Analyze according to the principle of relative stiffness/flexibility
Identify some frequent motor patterns in the shoulder and pelvic girdles and relate them to a movement diagnosis
Use secondary tests to guide the patient in modifying movement
un diagnostic de mouvement
Include the exercise program in functional movements and daily positioning
Wish to ensure follow-up of movement quality for preventive purposes
Preparatory reading
Some documents will be sent to you two weeks to one month before the training.
Language of the training
